A Giant Thank You!

Just wanted to send out a giant Thank You to all of the Falcons to took the time and effort to bring such wonderful gifts to

yesterday's Toy Drive.  I counted about 50 items in all when I was packing it up to go the the Fire Department yesterday, not to mention

the six foot giraffe stuffed animal (thanks John A!).  The Fire Department was so surprised and pleased to have received such a bounty of gifts.

Club meeting Sunday November 14th 12:00 p.m.

The November club meeting will be held on Sunday the 14th. Anyone who is interested in good beer and home brewing is welcome to attend. We are a friendly group of people that love beer, and we love spreading the word about it. Just bring a few bottles, growler, or keg of home brew to share with the attendees. You can talk about your beer, and receive friendly critique from experienced brewers. Learn tips and techniques too. Never brewed before? Come on by to see how to get started.

Honey and wine barrels

I've been fortunate enough to source honey from a local bee keeper at a great price and wanted to share with you guys. I can get raspberry, black button sage, and malibu wild flower honeys for $2/lb. I'd want to get every ones order in all at once so I don't have to bother him too much. Please post how much of which honeys you would like and I'll bring it to the next club meeting.

AHA Club Only Competition - Pucker Up Results

Congrats guys, it was hard fought over, but the judges finally finished an hour's arguing with these results! 53 entries can only sadly yield 3 winners.

1st Place - Scott Neubauer - Society of Oshkosh Brewers - 17 A - Berliner Weiss

2nd Place - Scott Wells - Austin Zealots - 17 B - Flanders Red - "Rod and Todd Come Out of the Closet"

3rd Place - Andy Gamelin - Society of Barley Engineers - 17 F Kriek

Thanks to the judges who came out and risked a sour stomach to evaluate all of these entries. It was much appreciated!

GABF Results - The Falcons have an Impact

I'll link the full list when it gets published on the web, but I just wanted to throw it out here. Woo! (Full winner's list here )

The very first beer award handed out at the GABF is the ProAm Competition and you know who just walked away with the Gold? Our friends and neighbors at Eagle Rock Brewery with their version of Donny Hummel's Red Velvet Imperial Rye Ale. And how was that recipe chosen? It was chosen because Donny won the Doug King Memorial back in January!

CANCELLED !!!!!!!! LA-Orange Brewery Bus Trip

DUE TO LACK OF PARTICIPATION, THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED!!!!

Sorry to tell the people that did want to go, we didn't reach the minimum number of people we needed to make the trip happen.  Next time we will likely head back South to our favorite San Diego area breweries, as we never seem to have a problem filling up the bus for that trip.  Meanwhile, come to Oktoberfest at Oak Park on October 15!

I've been making some minor system/process tweaks. One thing I've always disliked was my IC and how it sags letting the copper tubes touch and rest upon one another, effectively building a wall that the wort does not flow between. The whirlpool most likely didn't work as well as it should.

I went here during a business trip with my boss. If you come the wrong way on the road, you can easily miss the sign! The place is tucked into a tourist mall at the base of the mountain gondola and near the Nevada casinos, but the atmosphere is not touristy at all.

Brew my own........soda

Now that the "baby" is 5 I am ready to get back into brewing.   I am working towards brewing a batch of my award winning Hefe in a couple of weeks, but, in the mean time, as Xandra has shown an interest in all things science (including brewing) I am looking to figure out how best to brew some soda with her.  We had some root beer extract stuff that was probably 5 years old, we mixed it with sugar and force carbonated in the keg....we want draft soda, but it didn't turn out as good as we would have liked.  Anyway, I started doing some searching on how best to "brew" soda and decided that I s
