BJCP Mead Class and Exam

On Saturday, February 1, John Kaufman is going to be administrating a BJCP Mead Tasting Exam.  You don't need to be a beer judge to take it, as long as you pass the mead on-line entrance exam you can be a mead judge.

To help prepare people for the exam, we'll be conducting three Mead Judging classes at the Home Wine and Beer Shop.  All will be on Wednesday at 7PM and be on Jan. 8, Jan. 15, and Jan. 22.  John Kaufman, John Aitchison, and Roger Taylor will be leading the class--and we can promise you plenty of great and unusual meads in the process.

But the goal is to help people really know mead.  We'll go into floral sources, melomels, metheglins, braggots, specialites, and meads you didn't know exist.  You'll not only learn how to taste and judge meads, you'll become a much better mead maker in the process.

The cost of the class is just $50, mostly because rare honey is fairly expensive.  There is no limit or qualifications to be in the class (except over 21), but only 12 people can sit for the exam and only those who have passed the entrance exam qualify.  Please let either of the "John's" know if you're interested.  John Kaufman can be reached at john@lacitylive.com and John Aitchison can be reached at malty@earthlink.net.
