Mead Tasting

Our annual roundtable of meads will take place on Sunday, June 22, from 1 to 4 PM at the Home Wine, Beer, Cheese, and Meadmaking Shop in Woodland Hills. Both homemade meads and commercial meads (should there be any) are welcome. The tasting is well attended and it generally takes two 22 oz. or 750 ml bottles, or four 12-oz. bottles, to allow every one a small sample. Bring a suitable tasting glass such as a small wine glass or beer goblet. The focus is on learning how meads are made, ideas for and sources of ingredients, evaluating the aromas and flavors and textures of meads, and answering any other pertinent questions that arise about mead. We usually go through some 30 meads -- they can be potent and richly flavored, and we do want everyone to get home safely afterwards, so please keep your samples small! We will supply drinking water, which is also encouraged. Please remember - this is a tasting event for those seriously interested in Mead! No gulping, no guzzling, no swilling!

Feel free to bring snacks or appetizers or sweets to share at our buffet table, which help to clear our palates of all those different meads. Specific questions can be directed to Bruce Brode at hordeum_vulgare@yahoo.com
