October Minutes BY Douglas King (Published in the November 1996 Brews and News)
The only minutes I am writing this month are for the Board meeting, due to Oktoberfest and the lack of a regular meeting. I thought the Fest was terrific! Plenty of great beer. Plenty of REALLY great food. Fun activities, like keg tossing. Great live music. Unfortunately, a rather light turnout, but that just meant there was more for the rest of us! The Board of Directors met on Thursday October 10th. There were eight members in attendance. There was quite a bit of business to discuss, including introducing the newest board members to the general goings-ons of a board meeting. We started with old business, including a re-cap of the Oktoberfest party. Basically, we all agreed that it went very smoothly, no real problems. Everyone thought Biff did a great job of organizing the event, and everyone really loved the feast, which the new burgermeister Gary Smith provided. Thanks to all that helped to make this another great Falcons party! The only other old business was the Pub Crawl, which was a total disaster. We discussed some ways of preventing a recurrence of this unsuccessful event. We laid out a rough agenda for the various activities throughout the upcoming year. A couple of assignments were made for organizing club events. We also discussed a preliminary calendar for the year's events, in an effort to coordinate our activities with some of the other things going on locally at the same time. The A-B tour is all set for Oct 24th. We talked about an upcoming glassware order, which styles, which logo, how many, etc. We decided to only provide lunch for 30 max per regular meeting, due to lack of purchases and too much left over food. Gary will be doing enchiladas for November. Ken Fay will do a demo on serving from corney kegs at the November meeting. I will be doing an adjunct brewing demo for the December meeting. Bruce Brode will be handling the SCHF organization duties again this year. Gary Smith will be organizing the Mayfaire party. The remainder of the meeting pretty much dealt with getting everyone in tune with the master plan for this board's responsibilities. Newsletter submission deadlines, envelope stuffing deadlines, mailing deadlines, etc. A schedule of upcoming shop brews, to tie in with style of the month. Coordinating different word processor programs and e-mail systems so as to be able to process it all for the newsletter took quite a while to iron out. That's about all for now. I'll leave you with this: I'm happy to be back for my third term as your secretary and head note taker, but please don't hesitate to run for my office at next July's elections! I think I might need a break by then!
see ya at the November meeting, Doug |
