Sunfest by Brian Vessa (Published in the July 1996 Brews and News) The Maltose Falcons' Sunfest will be held on August 3rd at the Three Points "Legends of the West" Ranch. We have booked Friday the 2nd, Saturday the 3rd, and Sunday the 4th. The main event will be Saturday the 3rd, starting at 1PM, and going well into the night! The Ranch is on 11 acres of private land at about 3000 feet elevation, with a bar, stage, outdoor tables, fire pits, horseshoe pits, flush toilets and a huge meadow to camp in. There is also a small apartment on the premises with hot showers that we can use. We'll have plenty of brew, great food, and electricity right there to run the band and lights. The Pacific Crest Trail runs right by the ranch, so there is plenty of great hiking and scenery available. It is about 10 minutes from Lake Elizabeth, where there is boating, fishing and swimming. It sounds like a real blast! Friday night, the bar will be open for anyone wishing to hang out and tip a few back while playing pool, etc., as well as munching on some fine food. We will have the whole place to ourselves on Saturday, as they will close the bar to the public for the entire day and night! We will have use of the walk-in refrigerators in the bar to keep kegs cold, as well as the grill and pool tables. The bar will reopen on Sunday for those who want some breakfast and a morning eye-opener. Tickets will be available at the July 14th meeting. The cost is $30, which includes parking, camping for two nights, and the big barbecue meal on Saturday afternoon. For those that don't want to camp, there is a bed and breakfast a few miles away. Contact John Leslie at (818) 753-5121 for details and reservations if you are interested in this option. We are trying to get people to buy tickets in advance so that we can plan our food needs, so if you can't make the July meeting, contact Mark Poliner to reserve a ticket (818) 727-9806. Contact Matt Cotter at (818) 708-2668 if you can bring side dishes or help with the food preparation. To get to 3 Points Ranch: Take highway 5 north past Pyramid Lake to highway 138, which heads toward Lancaster and Palmdale. Turn right, go about 15 miles, you will see signs for 3 Points Ranch. Follow the signs and turn right at 3 Points Road, go down about 3 miles. (This turns into Pine Canyon Road as you go along.) The ranch is on a corner, 26486 Pine Canyon Road. There should be maps available at the July meeting. I'll see you there! Back to The Roost || Brew Recipes || Brews & News |
