The Falcons' Club House

Built behind John Daume's Home Beer Wine Cheesemaking Shop is one of the greatest
assets the Falcons have : Our own Private Clubhouse. For many clubs finding a regular location to meet is a challenge: folks don't
want to volunteer their homes; new/potential members don't feel comfortable going to stranger's homes; brewpubs and bars get tired
of hosting club's bringing their own beers and taking valuable space.
The club has always been fortunate that John D has always provided a space for the club to meet. At the first store
location, across Ventura Blvd. from the current location, the club used to meet in the "Garden of Olives" under the trees. The early
Falcons festivals and competitions were held in this space al fresco.
After John moved in the mid-80's the club continued to meet at the Shop, on the sales floor. Over time as the club
grew larger and larger, the space became impractical.
Finally, in the earlier 90's in collaboration with Daume and the Cellarmasters (our counterparts in wine),
the Falcons (led by the handiwork of Michael Bowe of Angel City) constructed a concrete slab clubhouse and classroom for use as a meeting
space and lab.
In 2004, the Cellarmasters and Falcons got together again the help clean the clubhouse and repainted the dim green walls. Today we continue to enjoy using this space for
our club meetings, where you can expect to find around 50 members discussing beers during the club meetings. If you've thought of coming down to a meeting, bring some beer,
we don't bite and we like to help folks out.

Hidden behind the shop under a bough of grapevines is the unassuming doorway to homebrewvana. During the Falcons' meeting, members gathering under the grapes and sample beers on draft in our handmade keg boxes. Sometimes the best part of the meeting is out here. |

with ethunsiasm to his portion of the 30th Anniversary Adambier. Every meeting consists of two sets
of beer tasting, lunch, a demonstration and a little bit of business.

We also hold other events in the club house. Pictured here is Bruce Brode's Annual Mead Tasting. Every Spring, the meadmakers gather to sample 30-40 different home made and commercially produced meads.
This is an event not to be missed.

Every year the club runs four homeberew competitions, these photos are from the
checkin of the 2002 Mayfaire. During this year we had over 400 entries. Here you
see the staff making the entries anonymous and checking them into the competition system.

Used for both our brewing projects and our competitions, we maintain two chest freezers on thermostats. These sit right next to the new Falcons Brewery.
