Brew Session

Brew with a Falcon Day

It's back! Time for our second annual (first annual - wait what is it when you on the first repeat, but second event? - regardless, it's our second time with BwaF) Sunday March 22nd, a few members of the club, will be opening up their homes to other folks to brew together. Most of these sites will be unlike a shop brew - there will be no wort for members to take home. Instead, brewers will signup and on Sunday March 22nd you'll go to your chosen location and hang out, learn and help out. Here are the sites as they exist today:

March Club Shop Brew Session - Ladies Brew Day! March 22

Get ready for a very special Maltose Falcons event - the (now) Annual Ladies Brew Session on Sunday, March 22!!

Falcons Board Secretary Melody Hitt will lead an all-women brew crew in making an Irish Red Ale in honor of Saint Patrick's Day, and because she is an Irish redhead herself. Her grandfather brewed this beer several times, and from the time Melody was seven years old, she would help him "cook his beer."  Since then, this Irish Red Ale has become one of her favorite, standbys recipes, with delicious results.

This will be a fairly large and sweet RIS using an English ale yeast with Original Gravity in the 1.090s and finishing around 1.030.  Allen brewed this recipe and aged it in an oak barrel, winning first place in the wood aged category at the 2014 Mayfaire competition.

December Club Shop Brew Session - Belgian Stout!

Falcons, sign up now for the next Club Shop Brew Session, Sunday December 14, as Chris Moon, Alex  Samovitz and Donovan Nebreklievski lead the crew in brewing a very exciting and powerful beer - Belgian Stout!

There are only a few commercial examples, including Allagash Black and Anchorage Brewing Co.'s Darkest Hour (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24903/94657) to which this beer is an homage. Imagine the meeting place between a quad and a Russian Imperial Stout and you get the idea.

November Club Shop Brew Session - Copper Serpent Honey Ale!

Falcons, sign up now for the next Club Shop Brew Session, Sunday Nov. 9, as Steve and Irene lead the crew in brewing a unique beer - Copper Serpent Honey Ale. Every brew crew member has to bring 3 lbs. of honey, so in addition to bumping up the cost for ingredient by about $20, it will seriously bump up the ABV and flavor! Since Steve and Irene first brewed it in 2011, it has never been in a competition, but maybe this time it will! It will be especially interesting to see how everyone's different honey makes a unique beer, so please bring some back to share and sample with the club!
